Eastern Downs Coast Guard in Women's Soccer Match

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- A fast start for the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University propelled them past the Coast Guard Academy Women's Soccer on Wednesday night. 

Despite being outshot by the Bears, ESCU was able to convert their opportunities and jumped out to a formidable 3-0 lead early in the first half. The scoring open just five minutes into the game. They would go on to add two others in the next twenty minutes. Hailey Cocca for the Warriors notched four points with a goal and two assists in the first half. Teammates Katelyn Herbert and Grace Muller would each tally three points each when each added a goal to go along with their earlier assists. 

The Bears did create their fair share of opportunities, taking twelve shots in the game and putting eight of those on net. Both ECSU goalkeeper were up to the test tonight with both Emily Wallace and Rachel Hughes making four saves apiece. The Coast Guard attack was evenly spread on the evening with six different players accounting for the eight shots on goal. 

The non-conference loss drops Coast Guard to 5-7-2 on the season, while Eastern Connecticut State improves to 6-5-3. The Bears wind down their season with three NEWMAC contests left on their schedule. The first of which will come in a tough road test in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology this Saturday, October 22nd, 2022 at 1pm EST.
