Box Score TOWSON, Md.-- Head Coach Chris Parsons recorded his 200th NCAA victory this afternoon during Coast Guard men's soccer 4-1 win over Goucher College to wrap up their weekend trip to Maryland. The Bears start the season 3-0 for the first time since 2016, while Goucher drops to 0-2-1.
Senior Mike Daunt scored two goals to lead the Bears in the victory.
Goucher got on the board first in the fifth minute to take a quick 1-0 lead. Coast Guard answered less than 30 seconds later to tie it 1-1. Senior Gabriel Gallant took a corner kick and found freshman Jude Sargent who headed the ball in for his second goal of the season. The game remained tied 1-1 throughout the first half. Coast Guard had a 10-3 advantage in shots during the first half.
The Bears opened the second half with a goal in the 50th minute. Senior Robbie Fugett gave a direct pass to junior John Flood who was running into the box to give Coast Guard a 2-1 lead and Flood's first goal of the season.
In the 78th minute, Daunt and Fugett paired up for a textbook give-and-go. Daunt fired his shot, hit the inside of the crossbar, and went in to extend the Bears lead 3-1. In the final minute of play, Daunt put the game away with his third goal of the season, giving the Bears the 4-1 final.
Coast Guard junior goalkeeper, John Vaaler made two saves in the victory for the Bears. Goucher goalkeeper Jeff Castro made four saves.
The Bears held a 16-8 advantage in shots and both teams had five corner kicks each.
Coast Guard is back in action on the road this Wednesday, September 8 at 4:45 PM as they travel to Western Connecticut State.
