Bears Fall in Season Opener

BOSTON, Mass.-- Coast Guard women's soccer fell 2-1 on the road at UMASS Boston on Friday afternoon in the season opener. UMASS Boston is 2-0 to open their season, while the Bears open the season 0-1.

In the 30th minute, freshman Sidney Palinkas sent a cross to junior Reilly Pogoloff to put away the first goal of her career. The Bears would maintain the lead until the 45th minute when Allie Crawford found Mary Jo Murphy for her third goal of the season, as UMASS Boston tied the game 1-1 just seconds before halftime.

In the 78th minute, Mary Jo Murphy & Maggie Kelley set up Grace McGettrick to scored the game-winning goal for the Beacons.

Shots for both Coast Guard and UMASS Boston were 12 apiece. Both teams had six corner kicks in the game.

The Bears sophomore goalkeeper Hope Drake-Duval made six saves in her collegiate debut. Junior Maria Spylios made five saves in the victory for the Beacons.

Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday, September 8 at 6 PM as they host Salve Regina in the Bears home opener.
