Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Coast Guard women's soccer fell 2-1 to Wellesley College on Saturday afternoon in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener.
Sophomore Ella Pierce notched the game-winner for the Blue in the 69th minute as she buried a rebound off Alyssa Ing's initial shot.
Wellesley got on the board first in the 21st minute as freshman Marleigh Ausbrooks took advantage of a miscue of the Bears defense and took it in all alone to record her second goal of the season.
Sophomore Sidney Palinkas scored her first goal of the season to tie it 1-1 in the 33rd minute. Freshman Riley Vicinanzo set up Palinkas as she scored from outside the box and into the top right corner.
The Bears outshot the Blue 15-10 and had a 6-2 advantage in corners.
Coast Guard sophomore goalkeeper Hope Drake-Duval made four saves for the Bears, while Wellesley's junior goalkeeper Kendall Lincoln made seven saves for the Blue.
The Bears are back in action on the road on Tuesday, September 21 at Wesleyan at 6 PM.
