Rangers Slips Past Bears in Non-Conference Action

Box Score

MADISON, N.J. - The Coast Guard women's soccer team fell to Drew, 3-0, on the final day of the Drew Fall Festival.

With the loss, the Bears fall to 2-2 on the season while the Rangers improve to 3-1.

Scoring for Drew was freshman Alex Krause, junior Gabby Gilgorri, and sophomore Rebecca Racine. Registering two assists for the Rangers was junior Emma Shatel.

Drew found the back of the net in the opening 15 minutes as Shatel found Krause with a pass in Coast Guard's attacking third. Krause fired a shot that was blocked but the freshman collected her rebound and finished off the opening goal for her third goal of the season.

After Gilgorri converted a penalty kick in the 22nd minute, the Rangers completed their scoring in the second half. Shatel once again was serving things up, finding Racine with a cross on the Bears' doorstep. The sophomore one-touched the pass into the back of the net giving Drew a three-goal advantage.

Coast Guard continued to charge, outshooting Drew 7-2 in the second half and 14-5 overall but were unable to find a tally, falling to the Rangers 3-0 to complete the Mid-Atlantic roadtrip.

Sophomore Hope Drake-Duval (2-2) and junior Sarah Schollenberger split the goalkeeping duties on the afternoon, combining to allow three goals.

Junior Anthi Panayides (3-1) started in goal for the Rangers, making three saves in the first half. Freshman Amina Cirkiel wrapped up the shutout in the second half with five saves of her own.

Coast Guard returns home on Wednesday, September 15 to host rival Conn. College. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
