Box Score KINGS POINT, N.Y.-- Sophomore Charles Fish scored in the 66th minute to give Coast Guard men's soccer a 1-0 victory over Merchant Marine on Saturday afternoon. The Bears extend their win streak to 5-0 on the season and secure the first point of 2021-22 for the Superintendents' Trophy. The Mariners drop to 1-4 on their season.
Fish put away his second game-winning goal this season in the 66th minute on his own, coming off a chip from outside the box into the top right of the net.
Merchant Marine had their best opportunity to tie the game in the 83rd minute as Daniel Murphy sent a header right under the crossbar, but Coast Guard sophomore goalkeeper Josh Hudson was able to make the stop and maintain the shutout. Hudson tallied five saves for his second shutout win of the season.
With a scoreless first half, the Bears had an 8-4 advantage in shots. Both teams had a total of 14 shots, 10 of the Mariners shots came in the second half. Both teams were also even with five corner kicks apiece.
The Mariners goalkeeper Chase Miller made five saves in the loss.
Coast Guard is back in action on Tuesday, September 14 at home against Salve Regina at 7 PM.
