Box Score WORCESTER, Mass.-- Ranya Basma scored the game-winning goal for WPI as the Engineers defeated Coast Guard women's soccer 2-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular-season finale. Coast Guard closes out the season at 5-11 overall and 3-7 in NEWMAC play, while WPI finished the season at 11-5-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the NEWMAC.
WPI got on the board first in the 21st minute as Grace Casey fired a shot in the top right corner sent from Caitlin Bonavita to give the Engineers a 1-0 lead.
In the 77th minute, Basma scored the eventual game-winner on her own as WPI took a 2-0 lead.
Senior Brielle Pearce scored her third goal of the season to cut the Bears deficit, 2-1 with a free-kick just outside of the box.
WPI outshot Coast Guard 15-9 and the Bears had a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Coast Guard sophomore goalkeeper Hope Drake-Duval made five saves in her 90 minutes, while WPI goalkeeper Lauren Paul made six saves for the Engineers.
The game marked the final game for Coast Guard seniors: Kate Barnett, Lily Goebel, Jocelyn Highsmith, Abby McGuire, Brielle Pearce, and Katie Roys.
