Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.-- The Coast Guard men's soccer undefeated streak has been snapped by MIT with a 1-0 loss at home on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. The Bears drop to 8-1-1 overall and 2-1 in the NEWMAC, while MIT improves to 8-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.
The Engineers scored the only goal of the game in the 13th minute as senior Noah Faro sent in a cross to junior Nick Weiler, who then dropped a direct header to classmate John Flynn right in front of the Bears goal to put away Flynn's second goal of the season.
Coast Guard outshot MIT 15-14, with 11 shots coming in the second half. The Bears also had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
In the 74th minute, the Bears had an opportunity to tie the game off a penalty kick but the shot was saved and the Engineers maintained the 1-0 lead.
Coast Guard sophomore goalkeeper Josh Hudson drops to 3-1 with five saves in the loss, while MIT junior goalkeeper Paarth Desai made seven saves in the win to improve to 4-2.
Coast Guard is back in action on Tuesday, October 5 on the road in non-conference action at Wesleyan at 4 PM.
