Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Sophia Galdamez hit .323 and had a career and match-high 27 kills to go with 17 digs, but it wasn't enough as Springfield snapped Coast Guard's six match conference winning streak beating the Bears 3-2 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.
The Pride won 19-25, 25-22, 31-29, 17-25, 17-15 to improve to 18-4 overall and 5-4 in the NEWMAC while Coast Guard saw its six match conference win streak snapped and dropped to 13-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
Noelle Tursky led the Bears with a career-high 48 assists while Amanda Dake added 16 kills and eight digs. Kaela France led the Bears with 18 digs.
Bella Fleeger led the Bears with a career-high nine blocks while Elizabeth Atkinson (8) and Maddie James (7) also posted career-highs in blocks in the loss.
The Pride held an 8-7 lead in the opening set before the Bears scored six of the next seven points to take a 13-9 lead. Coast Guard extend the lead to 20-14 and win 25-19. Dake led the way with seven kills in the opener while Galdamez hit .750 and had six kills.
In the second set, Coast Guard jumped out to a 6-2 lead and maintained the lead until the Pride scored four straight to take an 18-17 lead. Springfield scored five straight to break a 19-19 tie and won 25-22.
Coast Guard would use an 8-3 run breaking a 10-10 tie and opening up an 18-13 lead in the third set. The Pride would respond with a 10-3 run to take a 23-21 lead and the Pride had a air of set points leading 24-22, but the Bears pulled even 24-24. Springfield had set points at 25-24 and 29-28 while Coast Guard had set points at 26-25, and 28-27 before the Pride won the marathon set 31-29.
The Bears scored the first five points of the fourth set and they led 10-4. Springfield would score five straight to cut the deficit 15-14. Coast Guard would take control scoring seven straight turning a 17-16 lead into a 24-16 lead and the 25-17 win.
In the fifth set, the Pride would use a 7-1 run to take a 12-6 lead and they led 14-9 before the Bears fought off five straight match points and pulled even 14-14 before the Pride closed it out 17-15.
Coast Guard is back in action on Thursday night when they host neighbor Connecticut College in a non-conference match at 7:00.
