Box Score 2 NAPLES, Fla.-- Junior Sydney Arendt pitched a no-hitter in the first game of Coast Guard softball's sweep during their fourth day of games in Fort Myers. The Bears defeated Anna Maria 9-0 in the first game and Oneonta, 3-1 in the second game.
GAME ONE-- COAST GUARD 9, ANNA MARIA 0
Arendt had five strikeouts, facing 20 batters en route to her no-hitter. Freshman Katie Becker had a game-high two RBI's to lead the Bears. Senior Audrey Bartz and sophomore Maggie Perez both had three hits with one RBI each for Coast Guard. Seniors Courtney McKenna and Sarah Kemp both had two hits, and freshman Mariah Dewey brought in one run with one hit.
The Bears jumped to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. McKenna stole second and Perez advanced to home on the throw to give the Bears their first run of the game. Bartz and Becker hit back-to-back singles and took advantage of Amcat errors to score the next two runs for a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Perez hit a one run triple to extend the Bears lead, 4-0. Coast Guard scored two more in the bottom of the second to take a 6-0 lead.
Dewey had a one run single in the bottom of the fourth and Becker put the game away with her two run single for the 9-0 final.
GAME TWO-- COAST GUARD 3, ONEONTA 1
Bartz led the Bears with two RBI's and one hit. Freshman Selena Serna had the other RBI for Coast Guard with one hit as well.
The Bears took a 2-0 lead in the opening inning. Bartz had a one run single to put the Bears on the board first, 1-0. Serna followed up with a one run single of her own to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
Coast Guard took a 3-0 lead in the second as Bartz was walked with bases loaded, sending Kemp home for the Bears third run. Gianna DiGiovanni hit a one run single to give Oneonta their first run, for the 3-1 final.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow, March 12 at 9 and 11 AM when they take on Brockport and RIT.
