Box Score WORCESTER, Mass.-- Senior Claire Hurley set the Coast Guard women's soccer career assist record with 16 in the Bears 2-1 victory over WPI in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon. Coast Guard is now 3-6 overall and 2-0 in the NEWMAC, while WPI drops to 8-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Sophomore Brielle Pearce got the Bears on the board first in the 46th minute after a scoreless first half. Hurley tallied her record-breaking assist on the goal as she crossed the ball from the right side to find Pearce to give the Bears a 1-0 advanage.
WPI tied the game 1-1 in the 66th minute when junior Sofia Orrico received a through ball at the top of the box from sophomore Ava Schlesinger.
Junior Felicia Lombardi received a pass from Pearce to put away her second goal of the season in the 83rd minute to give the Bears the 2-1 game-winner.
The Engineers outshot the Bears 20-7 and had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman Sarah Schollenberger made 10 saves in the victory and improves to 3-4 on the season. WPI senior goalkeeper Mandy St. Germain made one save in the loss and drops to 8-3 on the season.
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday, October 2 against Wentworth at home in non-conference action with a 4 PM kickoff.
