Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Coast Guard volleyball won their fifth straight match with a 3-0 victory over Emerson on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. The Bears are now 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while Emerson drops to 6-4 on the season and 0-2 in the NEWMAC.
Coast Guard swept Emerson, 25-17, 25-20, and 25-19. Sophomore Amanda Dake led the Bears with 12 kills and senior Angelou Dunton had eight kills and seven digs. Junior Bridget Boyle added six kills and freshman Noelle Tursky had a team-leading 18 assists. Junior Veronica Hine tallied a game-high 12 digs for the Bears.
Sophomore Carolyn Vaimoso and junior Grace Tepper led the Lions with seven kills each. Freshman Caroline Bond had a game-high 23 assists and freshman Anna Phillips added 11 digs.
The Bears took a five-point lead in the first set, 10-5 but Emerson inched their way back to tie it 13-13. Hine led the Bears with seven consecutive serves to take a 22-15 lead as they extended to win set one, 25-17.
Coast Guard used a six-point run to take a 12-6 lead. Tursky and sophomore Maddie James came up with a block to give the Bears a 22-13 advantage. The Lions used a four point run to cut the deficit 24-20 but the sophomore Lauren Hatfield came up with the final kill for the Bears to take the second set, 25-20.
Tursky had nine consecutive serves as the Bears jumped out to a 15-4 lead. Emerson cut the deficit, 23-18 but the Bears finished with the third and final set, 25-19.
Coast Guard continues conference play on Tuesday, September 24 on the road at Mount Holyoke at 7:00 PM.
