Bears Sweep Clark; Remain Unbeaten in NEWMAC

WORCESTER, Mass . –  Coast Guard swept a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader from Clark winning the opener 7-2 and completing the sweep with a 13-8 win in the second game.

The Bears, who improve to 11-7 overall, are a perfect 4-0 in the NEWMAC for the second straight season. Clark drops to 5-9 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday when the Bears host MIT in a NEWMAC doubleheader at noon.

GAME ONE – COAST GUARD 7, CLARK 2

Sydney Arendt (5-3) went the distance allowing six hits and a pair of earned runs while walking four and fanning six to pick up the win.

Audrey Bartz had two hits in the win for the Bears.

Coast Guard, trailing 1-0 in the third, scored four runs in the third as Carly Hattman  and Charlee Kraiss both scored on an errors, Claire Hurley scored on a wild pitch and Bartz delivered an RBI single for a 4-1 lead.

The Bears put the game way with three more in the seventh. Kayla Sowers and Kylie Vavarek had RBI singles and Maggie Perez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to close the scoring.

GAME TWO – COAST GUARD 13, CLARK 8

Perez had a career-high four hits, going 4 for 4 while Malia Hindle had career-highs with three hits including a double and four RBI's and the Bears exploded for nine runs in the third en route to the 13-8 win.

Bartz, Kraiss and McKenna each added two hits as Coast Guard had 14 hits in the game two win.

Coast Guard took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI double by Malia Hindle before the nine run outburst gave the Bears a 10-0 lead.

In the third, the Bears scored several ways as Courtney McKenna had a two-run single, Bartz ripped an RBI double, Sowers added an RBI ground out, Hindle had an RBI single, Hattman walked with the bases loaded, Hurley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Kraiss capped off the inning with a two-run single.

Coast Guard led 10-3 and added three in the sixth on a two-run single by Hindle and an RBI single by Perez for the 13-3 lead.

 Julia Ferris (6-4) went the distance to get the win for Coast Guard.
