Bears Fall in NEWMAC Quarterfinals

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Katelyn Korzec scored both Babson goals including the game winner off a rebound in the 71st minute leading the seventh-seeded Beavers to a 2-1 win over second-seeded Coast Guard in the quarterfinals of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament.

Babson improves to 9-8-2 and will play at third-seeded WPI on Thursday night in the semifinals, the Beavers sixth strip to the semifinals in the last nine years.

Coast Guard finishes the season 8-10-1. The Beavers also beat Coast Guard 2-0 in the regular season.

Babson would take a 1-0 lead on a goal by Korzec as she took a pass from Katherine Ryan in the 37th minute.

Coast Guard would score the equalizer in the 52nd minute off a corner kick on a header Abby McGuire with Claire Hurley assisting.

Korzec would score the eventual game winner with 19:31 left.

Coast appeared to tie the game with 7:07 left when McGuire sent a free kick into the box that Rachel Samotis scored on, but she was ruled offsides.

Morgan Fedosiewich (8-8-2) had three saves in the win for Babson while Sarah Schollenberger (8-8-1) had six saves for the Bears.

Babson outshot Coast Guard 15-12.

Hurley finishes her magnificent career with a school record tying 33 goals and owns the program records with 20 assists and 86 points.

It marked the final game for six seniors, who over the past four years won a record 34 games, the most by any class. The seniors are Hurley, Samotis, Lydia VanWinkle, Madeleine Khoilian, Valerie Hines and Lizzie Miller.
