Bears Fall to Babson

NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Coast Guard men's soccer fell 4-1 to Babson in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. The Bears finish their season at 9-8-1 overall and 2-5 in conference play, while Babson finished the year with a 11-6-2 record and 5-0-2 in the NEWMAC.

Babson got on the board in the 42nd minute from a free kick outside the box by sophomore Robert Dunne to take a 1-0 at the half.

Senior Luke Beaulieu gave Babson a 2-0 lead in the 65th minute as he put away his first goal of the game.

The Bears cut the deficit, 2-1 as junior Patrick Morris sent a long ball to the far post to find freshman John DiTommaso to bury his third goal of the season in the 76th minute.

Beaulieu answered for Babson, just two minutes later when he scored his second of the game to give the Beavers a 3-1 lead.

Ross Shellow scored the final goal for Babson in the 78th minute to give the Beavers a 4-1 victory.

Babson had a 20-15 advantage in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Coast Guard senior goalkeeper Dakota Harich made nine saves for the Bears and finishes the season at 6-6-1. Senior Steven Heintzelman had six stops for the Beavers and is 9-4-2 on his season.
