Bears Win Streak Snapped By Wheaton

NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Coast Guard men's soccer fell 1-0 to Wheaton to snap their three-game win streak on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. The Bears drop to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the NEWMAC, Wheaton improves to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Freshman Alberto Franceschi scored the lone goal of the game in the 54th minute following a scramble in the box, where he picked up the free ball, giving the Lyons the 1-0 final.

Despite the loss, the Bears outshot Wheaton, 22-8. Senior Brock Hassett had the best chance of the day as he sent a header on goal in the 87th minute but a Wheaton defender came up to deflect it away.

The Bears also had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper goalkeeper Dakota Harich made five saves in the loss and dropped to 3-3 on the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Diego Medina had season-high 10 saves for the Lyons and is now 5-3 on the season.

Coast Guard is back in action on Tuesday, October 8 at 4 PM when they host Wesleyan in non-conference play.
