Wildcats Slip Past Bears in Second Half of Nonconference Tilt

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Johnson & Wales scored back-to-back goals in the second half to top Coast Guard 3-1 in nonconference play Tuesday evening.

With the loss, the Bears fall to 4-4 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 6-5.

Junior Claire Hurley scored the Coast Guard's lone goal while both sophomore Kylee Ballard and freshman Brielle Pearce assisted the goal. Hurley is tied for fourth in the conference with 12 points on the season.

Freshman Emily Zeblisky scored two goals for Johnson & Wales and sophomore Olivia Cairro scored the other goal. Freshman Jordan Restivo registered an assist in the win.

Johnson & Wales wasted a little time scoring the first goal of the game as Zeblisky took a through ball from Restivo and deposited her shot into the bottom quarter just over two minutes into the game giving the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead.

Coast Guard had their best opportunity of the first half late in the period as Hurley sent a corner kick into the box. Freshman Jocelyn Highsmith got on the end of the service and fired a shot that deflected off the crossbar. Junior Lizzie Miller found the rebound but headed it over the crossbar making the halftime score 1-0 in favor of Johnson & Wales.

The Bears found the equalizer just over two minutes into the second half as Ballard and Pearce combined to find Hurley who fired it home making the score 1-1 with 47:05 on the clock.

In the 62ndminute Johnson & Wales snatched back the lead when Cairrao scored an unassisted goal making the score 2-1 in favor of the hosts.

The Wildcats added to their lead moments later as Zeblisky fired home her second tally of the game scoring an unassisted goal just over two minutes for the 3-1 lead with 64:37 on the clock.

Freshman Katharina Commins (4-4) made a career high nine saves in the loss.

Junior Colleen Lynch (6-5) made six saves for Johnson & Wales.

Coast Guard is back in action this Saturday, September 29th, when they to Wellesley, Massachusetts to take on the Wellesley Blue in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. Opening kickoff is 1:00.
