SPRINGFIELD, Mass.  – Emily Hogan's three-run double highlighted a four run seventh as Coast Guard rallied for a 7-5 win to salvage a split of a key New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader with Springfield. The Pride won the opener 3-1.

Coast Guard is now 16-6 overall and 7-3 in the NEWMAC while Springfield is also 16-6 overall, but 4-4 in conference play.

Springfield shutout Coast Guard twice last season 9-0 and 8-0, both games in six innings. It was the Bears had lost seven straight against Pride before the game two win.

The Bears are back in action on Friday with a NEWMAC doubleheader at WPI at 3:30.

GAME ONE – SPRINGFIELD 3, COAST GUARD 1

Coast Guard's Julia Ferris and Springfield's Talia Loda had shutouts going until Coast Guard scored in the sixth as Kayla Sowers scored on a passed ball for a 1-0 lead.

The Pride would erupt for three runs in the home half tying the game on a RBI single by Alexyss Conley before a two-run double by Yaxisa Vargas proved to be the game winner.

Ferris (8-4) allowed five hits and two earned runs in taking the loss for Coast Guard.

Claire Hurley had two of the Bears five hits in the loss.

GAME TWO – COAST GUARD 7, SPRINGFIELD 5

The Pride led 5-3 after six innings and were three outs away from a sweep before the Bears hung a four spot in the top of the seventh.

Courtney McKenna's sacrifice fly with the bases loaded pulled the Bears to within 5-4 before Audrey Bartz singled to reload the bases setting up Hogan's bases clearing double to left.

Springfield would load the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh before a strikeout and finally a line out to center gave the Bears the split.

The Pride took a 3-0 lead in the first inning before the Bears got on the board in the second on an RBI single double by Casey Cruzpino.

Cruzpino's RBI fielder's choice in the fourth made the score 3-2 before Malia Hindle's RBI single later in the inning tied the score 3-3.

The Pride scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth to regain the lead 5-3 before the Bears heroics in the seventh.

Bartz and Hogan each had two hits in the game two win for the Bears.

Sydney Arendt (8-2) went the distance and scattered 11 hits while allowing three earned runs, walking one and fanning four to pick up the win for Coast Guard.
