Six Different Players Score in Bears Win Over Lightning

Box Score

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Senior Michelle Hernandez had a career high three points with a goal and an assist as the women's soccer team earned their first win of the season over Lehman 6-0 on day two of the Cyclones Kickoff Classic hosted by Centenary College.

With the win the Bears improve to 1-1 on the season while the Lightning fall to 0-2.

Hernandez's three points are her first since she scored in her debut last season in a 1-1 tie to William Patterson. Sophomore Claire Hurley also scored while freshmen Lauren Murrill, Felicia Lombardi, Addie Severs and Kat Retz all scored their first collegiate goal. Juniors Olivia Holt and Kali Borden each had an assist.

Hernandez got the scoring started in the 10th minute as Borden sent a cross into the box. Hernandez settled the cross and fired a shot into the left side of the goal for the early 1-0 lead.

Hurley scored in a similar fashion as she took a cross from Holt and deposited the ball into the lower left corner making the first half score 2-0.

Lombardi scored the first goal of the second half as she fired home a rebound off a Rebecca Gritz save giving Coast Guard a 3-0 lead just 1:12 into the second half.

In the 55th minute Retz scored her first goal in a Coast Guard uniform cranking a shot past the outstretched hands of Gritz pushing the advantage to four.

Severs was next for the Bears as she took a pass from Hernandez and slotted the fifth goal of the game into the back of the net with 72:25 on the clock.

Murrill finished off the scoring for Coast Guard in the 89th minute as she rifled a shot into the center of the goal for the final score in the Bears 6-0 victory.

Junior Rachel Boohar (1-1) earned her first victory of the year making one save on one shot on goal in the first half. Sophomore Megan Houpt wrapped up the shutout in the second half facing zero shots.

Gritz (0-2) made a season high 14 saves on 20 shots on goal allowing six goals.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday, September 5th, when they host Nichols in the team's opener. Kickoff is 6:00.
