Box Score 2 BRISTOL, R.I. – Coast Guard split a pair of five set matches at the Roger Williams Invitational as the Bears lost to host Roger Williams 3-2 before beating Western Connecticut 3-2.
Coast Guard is now 8-8 on the season.
ROGER WILLIAMS 3, COAST GUARD 2
Roger Williams won by game scores of 19-25, 25-19, 25-16, 11-25, 15-13 to improve to 10-4 overall while the Bears dropped to 7-8 on the season.
Freshman Angelou Dunton led the Bears with 17 kills to go with 15 digs while senior Susan West registered 12 kills. Freshman Makenna Martin led the way with 34 assists while adding 14 digs. Junior Madison Scott led the way with five blocks. Junior Michelle McGill finished with a team-high 18 digs registering the 1,000th of her career in the morning match to beome the 13th player in program history to reach that milestone.
COAST GUARD 3, WESTERN CONNECTICUT 2
Coast Guard came from behind after dropping two of the first three games and beat the Colonials 25-22, 14-25, 23-25, 25-21, 17-15.
Dunton once again led the way, this time with a match-high 19 kills hitting .371 in the win. Scott added 12 kills and freshman Alexi Deane 11 for the Bears. McGill once again added 18 digs as she finished the day with 1,033 digs in her career. Martin finished with 15 digs while Scott led the Bears with four blocks.
Coast Guard is back in action on Tuesday night at Mount Holyoke in a NEWMAC game at 7:00.
