Box Score 2 CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Coast Guard held a three lead but MIT's offense overcame the deficit in the second game of the double-header to claim a regular season sweep of the Bears. Coast Guard dips to 9-11 and 1-7 and MIT improves to 14-2 overall and 8-0 with the two win (5-1 and 10-6) in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
Junior Cherokee Strickland sparked a five-run top of the second inning for the Bears, who overcame a two-run deficit after allowing the Engineers to score three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Seniors Erin Lisko and Jessie Richardson, sophomore Sara Cammuso, freshman Casey Cruzpino and Strickland all crossed home plate during the second inning, which provided the Bears with a 6-3 lead.
MIT trimmed the deficit in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore Natalie Shifflet singled to shortstop, which plated freshman Zoe Hinton. Two batters later, freshman Jasmin Joseph recorded her first collegiate triple, sending Shifflet to the plate. Tech then capped the rally with a single to leftfield by freshman Amanda Lee, which sent Joseph to the dish and evened the score at 6-6.
Senior K.K. Wopat pushed the Engineers ahead for good when she drove in Hinton on a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Tech concluded its offensive output in the bottom of the sixth with three more runs as Joseph and sophomores Ali Trueworthy and Helen Rosenthal crossed home plate, providing the Engineers with a 10-6 cushion.
In the first contest, MIT senior Ellie Fodor matched her performance from earlier this week with nine strikeouts, while yielding four hits and one run. Lee and junior Tori Jensen combined for four hits, two runs and two RBI, which helped the Engineers claim a 5-1 victory. Jensen, who recorded one double in each outing, matched the program's record for doubles in a season.
Lee got things started for the Engineers in the bottom of the first with a double to the left side, plating Natalie Shifflet. Jensen – the next at-bat – singled to shortstop, which sent Lee to the dish.
Coast Guard's lone run came in the top of the third as junior Morgan Kingston drove in Richardson that sliced the deficit to 2-1.
MIT distanced themselves in the bottom of the fourth when senior Karly McLaughlin scored on an error. In the bottom of the fifth, sophomore Monica Shifflet and Lee crossed home plate, securing a four-run victory for the Engineers.

Sarah Sorensen suffered the loss each game bringing her season record to 8-10.
Fodor improved to 7-2 in game one while Marshall improved to 7-0 in the circle in game two.
Coast Guard is back in action tomorrow as the play a doubleheader against Clark University at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
