Box Score 2 MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - After 17 days between games Coast Guard (8-4) was able to earn a split against Wesleyan (7-9) winning game one 4-3 and falling in game two in five innings 11-3.
In game one the Bears were led by senior Erin Lisko who went 3-4 with a double, two RBI's and two runs scored. Junior Hannah Ingerson and freshman Emma Hvozdovich both added an RBI as well.
Coast Guard(8-4) got the ball rolling in top of the third inning as Hvozdovich singled to right field scoring senior Jessie Richardson.
Lisko would push two more across in the top of the fourth as she singled up the middle plating junior Morgan Kingston and sophomore Sara Cammuso.
Ingerson would complete the scoring for the Bears singling to right field scoring Richardson.
The Cardinals would mount a comeback in the bottom of the fourth as senior Jill Gately and sophomore Jamie Horn both hit RBI double plating junior Susan Pardo and sophomore Christina Zaccardi.
Wesleyan would push one more across in the seven to make the score 4-3 but Coast Guard was able to shut the door with some heads up defense by getting sophomore Isabell Linzer to ground out to the pitcher and then were able to throw across the diamond getting sophomore Annalie Walsh-Costello at third for the final out of the first day.
The Bears would jump out to a 3-0 lead in the second game taking advantage of two Cardinal errors in the first inning. Ingerson would highlight the first innning hitting an 2 RBI double scoring Richardson and Lisko.
It would be all Wesleyan from then on out as they scored 11 unanswered runs. Three different players had 2 RBI's for the Cardinals. Walsh-Costello would go 2-4 with 2 RBI's while sophomore Angellina Massoia went 3-3 with an RBI.
Junior Sarah Sorensen would have a record of 1-1 on the day pitching a total of 9.2 innings giving up eight earned runs on 17 hits. Her season record is now 7-3. Freshman Emily Dow came into the second game in relief pitching 1.2 innings giving up three earned runs on four hits.
Pardo pitched game one for the Cardinals going seven innings giving up four earned runs and struck out six. Her record is now 0-2 on the season. In game two freshman Julie McDonald pitched five innings giving up zero earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Her season record is now 5-5.
The Bears return to action on Friday, April 3rd when they travel to Norton, Massachusetts for their first NEWMAC game of the season against Wheaton. First pitch is 3:00 pm.
