Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – MIT topped Coast Guard 3-0 by a final score of 25-15, 25-16, 25-14 in both teams final regular season finale.
The Bear's record falls to 19-9 overall and 5-5 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. The Engineers, currently ranked 25th in the nation, finished the regular season 28-2 overall with a 9-1 conference record.
Coast Guard was led by junior Susan West who hit .206 with 10 kills, and 10 digs. Senior Maggie Hine had a team high 23 assists and 13 digs while freshman Michelle McGill had nine digs.
MIT was led by sophomore Alli Davanzo who hit a match high .647 with 11 kills. Junior Megan Gebhard had 10 kills, hitting .429. Freshman Fiona Tanuwidjaja had a match high 33 assists with seven digs while junior Tori Wuthrich had 15 digs.
In the first set the Engineers ran out to a 5-0 lead and then a 9-2 lead behind two kills from Gebhard.
The Bears closed within five at 15-10 as West and sophomore Summer Adams has two kills each over this stretch.
MIT finished the first set on a 10-6 run for a 25-16 win and 1-0 lead.
In the second set sophomore Emma Saunders had three early kills propelling Coast Guard to an early 6-6 deadlock.
The Engineers however forced a timeout by the Bears after they went on a 7-2 run to take a 13-8 lead.
Coast Guard closed within four at 15-11 but that is as close as they would get in the second set as they fell by a score of 25-16.
The Bears once again kept it close early in the third set as they were down 5-4 and then down 10-8 after a kill by West.
MIT however closed on a 15-6 run to take the final set by a final score of 25-14 and the match 3-0.
Coast Guard enters the NEWMAC tournament as the fifth seed and will travel to the fourth seed Babson, on Tuesday, November 3rd for the quarterfinals. Match begins at 7:00.
