Big Second Half Leads Bears Past Mass. Maritime

Box Score

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman Alex Hall's goal with 9:11 remaining proved to be the game-winner and capped a second half comeback that propelled Coast Guard to a 3-1 non-league victory over Massachusetts Maritime at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Bears (5-9-1) erased a 1-0 deficit in the 63rd minute when sophomore Austin Read converted a rebound off a saved penalty kick for his third goal of the season to even matters and set up the heroics of Hall, who took a cross from the right side off the foot of sophomore Luke Telang for his second marker of the fall.  Sophomore Tyler Furry provided an insurance tally for Coast Guard with 2:39 remaining, as he slid a shot from the left side for his second goal of the season.

Freshman Brendan Gawron had staked the host Buccaneers (4-9) to the early lead just 8:18 into the contest, as he converted a feed from junior Thomas McCarthy from 10 yards out for his second collegiate goal.  Both teams had several chances over the remaining 36-plus minutes of the opening half but were unable to convert, setting up the visitors' rally in the final 27-plus minutes of action.

Freshman William Bragaw picked up his fourth win of the season with a six-save effort in goal for Coast Guard, while junior Joe Cohen also made six stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, including an initial save of Read's penalty kick.

The Bears outshot the Buccaneers by a 12-11 margin overall (9-7 on goal) and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks for the contest.

Coast Guard, which ran its unbeaten streak to three,  is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Wheaton for a conference match at 1 p.m.
