Tarzian's late Goal Lifts Bears Over Buccaneers

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn.- Senior Captain John Tarzian scored the only goal in 81st minute carrying Coast Guard to a 1-0 victory over the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

With just under nine minutes remaining in the game senior Jonathan Ray drove in a cross from 40 yards out catching Tarzian in stride who needed only one touch to put his shot past Mariner's sophomore keeper Joe Cohen.

Coast Guard outshot Mass. Maritime 19-2 including an 8-2 advantage with shots on goal.

This win puts the Bears record at 3-0 and drops the Mariners to 1-1 on the season.

Another great game for the Coast Guard defense as they held their second opponent in a row to single digit shot attempts. Senior Richie Burns made two saves in the game to tally his second shutout of the season and the 18th of his career.

Cohen made seven saves in the loss.

The Bears are back in action this Wednesday, September 10th when they take on Johnson & Wales  at the Coast Guard Academy at 5:00 pm.
