Netusil's Goal Lifts Bears to 1-0 Win

Box Score

PAXTON, Mass.  – Sophomore Terry Netusil's header in the 67 minute was the only goal of the game leading Coast Guard to a season-opening 1-0 win over Anna Maria.

Junior Hanna Jansson and senior tri-captain Lindsay Duplessis assisted on the Coast Guard goal 21:49 into the second half.

Senior Holly Moore needed to make just one save to register the fourth shutout of her career.

The Bears had another opportunity to score late in the second half as Jansson ripped a hard shot at the net from just outside the 20-yard box, but Kate Kneeland batted it down and fell on it to deny Coast Guard the second-chance opportunity.

Coast Guard outshot Anna Maria 25-4 including 17-2 in the second half.

Kneeland made 12 saves in goal for Anna Maria.

"I'm pleased to start off the season with a win," said Coast Guard head coach Susan Grant. "We struggled a bit in the first half connecting with one another, but we came out very strong in the second half to make our presence known and take control of the game."

The Bears are back in action on Wednesday when they host Mitchell at 6 p.m. in the home opener of the 2014 season.
