Box Score NEW LONDON, CT. – Junior John Rendon scored in the 107th minute of the second overtime to lift the Bears over Springfield College in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener, 2-1.
Rendon settled a volley just inside the box and blasted a shot into the upper left corner for his first goal of the season.
Rendon was involved in the first goal for the Bears as well when his shot was deflected by Springfield goalie, Brett Bascom, and junior Robert Copeland was there to cash in his first goal of the season in the 51st minute, giving Coast Guard a 1-0 lead.
Springfield tied up the match in the 72nd minute when junior Danny Amato scored on a free kick following a Coast Guard handball just outside the box. Amato tucked a shot into the upper right corner, just past diving goaltender Richie Burns.
Burns made four saves in the win while Bascom turned away six shots for the Pride.
Coast Guard returns to action on Wednesday, September 19th when they travel Milton, MA to square off against Curry College.
