Stokes joins the Coast Guard Academy team after working as a Doctor of Physical Therapy for the past five years. Stokes graduated from College of Charleston in 2012 with a degree in Exercise Science and was a four year member of the varsity sailing team. Stokes competed as both a crew and skipper throughout his tenure at Charleston. He was the Cougar’s starting A skipper at the Fleet Race Nationals in 2012, helping the team to their first-ever Fowle trophy, awarded to the best all-around college sailing team. He also assisted the Charleston team to the Team Race National Championship in 2012.

Stokes coached sailing at the high school and college level after graduation and while attending the Medical University of South Carolina. During that time, Stokes ran multiple clinics for club college sailing teams throughout the country. After receiving his Doctorate in Physical Therapy, Stokes moved to Hanover, N.H. where he practiced PT mostly focusing on working with athletes recovering from injury.

Stokes has continued to be an avid racer and enjoys learning and racing in keelboats, sport boats and dinghies. He has competed at the highest level in the J70, Viper, J22, Flying Scott and in an assortment of dinghies. In his off-time, he is an enthusiastic waterman and enjoys surfing, kiteboarding and windsurfing.
