Kyle Smesko will enter his third year as the Quarterbacks coach at Coast Guard. He was hired prior to the start of the 2023 season.
A veteran coach who has spent time at Division I, Division III, and international professional levels, Smesko brings a diverse background and strong experience to the staff.
Prior to arriving at Coast Guard, Smesko spent the 2022 at Allegheny College as Co-Recruiting Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach.
In 2017, he spent some time across the Atlantic working with the Monchengladbach American Football Club in Germany, serving as a consultant for winter workouts, while training fellow coaches on fundamentals, drills, offensive coordination, and strength and conditioning. Smesko also conducted a course that allowed German coaches to receive their Class A certification in coaching.
No stranger to high-academic institutions, Smesko coached and taught physical education at Williams College from 2010-17. Prior to Williams, he was the the offensive line coach at Thiel College.
From 1999-2003 he was a part of the offensive staff at Yale University where he worked with wide outs and tight ends before moving on to Franklin & Marshall College as the offensive coordinator from 2003-06.
A native of Akron, Ohio, and former standout player at Allegheny College in the Mid 90s, Smesko's coaching career started with the Gators where he mentored their running backs and wide receivers. During his time as a player, Smesko twice earned All-NCAC honors as he helped the Gators compile a record of 38-5.
A 1997 graduate of Allegheny with a degree in economics, Smesko also completed a master's of business administration from Norwich in the summer of 2021.
