Blumenthal joined the Coast Guard Academy team after five years as the assistant coach at Dartmouth College. During her time at Dartmouth, Ali assisted in coaching the Big Green to four top-5 finishes at ICSA National Championships. Blumenthal coached 41 sailors to ALL NEISA Awards including a NEISA Coed Sailor of the Year, a NEISA Coed Sailor of the Year finalist, a NEISA Crew of the year finalist, a NEISA Coed Sportsman of the Year, two NEISA Coed Rookies of the Year, a Women's Rookie of the Year finalist, and a NEISA Student Leadership winner. Blumenthal also helped develop 17 ICSA All-American sailors, a Marlow Ropes College Sailor of the Year Finalist, and a finalist for the Robert H. Hobbs Sportsmanship Award.

When not coaching, Ali continues to race competitively in multiple disciplines. Ali competes on the Match Racing circuit as part of Team BAAM. With her team, Ali has competed both nationally and internationally, recently winning the 2019 US Women’s Match Racing Championship and in 2018 her team placed 2nd at the New Zealand Women’s Match Racing Nationals.

Ali recently completed her Master’s Degree at Dartmouth College in creative writing. Prior to graduate school, Blumenthal received her undergraduate degrees in Arts Management and Studio Art from the College of Charleston in 2015. Ali was a four year member of the varsity sailing team, serving as captain during her junior and senior years. While at Charleston, Ali contributed to 7 top five finishes at ICSA National Championships including the Fleet Racing title in 2013 and the Team Racing title in 2012. Blumenthal was also named a three-time ICSA All-American Crew, and during her senior year she was awarded as an Academic All-American.
