WELLESLEY, Mass. --
Coast Guard Men's Cross Country competed today at the NEWMAC Championships at Nehoiden Golf Course, hosted by Wellesley College. The Bears had a solid showing, finishing 4th as a team with 106 points. MIT won the meet with 25 points.
Leading the way for CGA was Junior
Paul Hobbs(Vacaville, CA), whose 26:03 for the 8km course was good for 19th overall. Senior
Ryan Weston(Goodyear, AZ) had a great race at his final NEWMAC championship, his time of 26:16 was a new personal best, and earned him 25th overall, Sophomore
Brendan Fant(East Lyme, CT) was 3rd for the Bears, his 26:41 earning 34th overall. Close behind were Senior
Luke Manning(Waynesboro, PA)Â and Junior Jimmy Stover, running 26:50 and 26:54, respectively. Closing out CGA's scoring 7 were Senior
Jack Davidson(Westchester, PA) and Freshmen
James Kuduk, running 27:18 and 27:23.
"While their performance equals last year's team result at NEWMACs, this year's team showed significant growth compared to last year's in both finish times and racing acumen." Said coach
Greg Ahnrud. "We were up against what I believe to be the strongest overall field in NEWMAC history and held our own. I'm optimistic that we'll be able to better show our growth this year in the team results at the NCAA regional Championship in 2 weeks."
CGA's next race will be the NCAA Mideast regional championships on November 16th. The meet is  hosted by Connecticut College at Harkness Park. Last year the team finished 13th in the region.
